NOTE: These instructions are for Hatch 3 (not Hatch 2). Hoops are set up differently in Hatch 3. There are more detailed instructions in the Hatch Academy Trainings lessons for Hatch 3 hoops in general.
In Hatch 3 you can create a new machine and save to both JEF and DST.
These instructions are specific to the Janome M17 machine. However, if you have a Janome machine that is not listed in the software, you would follow the same procedure.
NOTE: You can set these up in Hatch 2 using “Others” as the machine. However, you can only save to DST. You cannot save to JEF with custom hoops in Hatch 2.
Step 1: Open the Create machine and/or Hoops dialog:
You should have no designs selected on the work screen.
Click on the “Hoop Options” icon (1)
Step 2: Create your machine
Click on the “Create” button to create a new Machine Brand (2)
Type in the brand and model for easy reference in the future. (3)
Click the “OK” button (4)
Step 3: Add new hoops dialog
The Add/Remove Hoops window will open. Click on the “Create” button (5)
NOTE: if your machine uses some of the same hoops you can select them and move them over. But for the Janome M17, you will need to make new hoops. While there are some Janome hoops with the same size indicated, you will notice the number or last letter on the hoop is different for this machine. You will notice the ones for this machine have the letter “d” at the end of the hoop name. Again, refer to your owner's manual.
NOTE:
Please refer to your owner’s manual for the hoops available for this machine.
At the time of this writing, these are the hoops we found:
Janome Continental M17
Hoops details:
RE46d 11 x 18” (280 x 460 mm)
SQ28d 11x 11” (280 x 280 mm)
RE20d 5.5 x 7.9” (140 x 200 mm)
SQ10d 3.9 x 3.9” (100 x 100 mm)
ASQ27d 10.6 x 10.6” (270 x 270 mm)
Step 4: Create new hoops
The Create Hoop window will open.
Give your hoop a name (6). I like to add my machine and the hoop size. You may want to add US measurements also but remember you are going to work with metric so be sure to add this.
Set the format (shape) of the hoop (7)
Set the height and width (8 & 9). Be sure to use metrics, not inches. Your owner’s manual will give this to you if you don’t know. US measurements are rounded up/down but the machines internally use metric. So if you have created a 4 x4 inch hoop but the machine is using a 100 x 100 mm size,
Then your 4” hoop is going to be too large and you will get a message on your machine. (4” is actually 101.6 mm
Click the “Save Hoop” button (10)
Step 5: Confirm your new hoops are on the right side of the window
You will be taken back to the machine hoops list window. Check that the hoops you want to have access to for this machine are on the right side. Then click the “OK” button (11).
Step 6: Set your design working page for the machine and hoop you want to use
You will be taken back to your working screen. Make sure nothing is selected in the screen and you see the machine/hoop window.
Select your machine, single needle (for the M17) and select the hoop from the drop-down list. (13)
You are now finished:
Your Janome M17 and hoops are now set up and you can access them when you want to.
